Giant Pots on the Way
11 May 2007
Have you admired the huge pots on I-40 or pointed them out to your visitors at the Albuquerque International Airport ( Albuquerque Sunport)? Bennie Duran and his daughter-partner, Donna Duran, are true Albuquerque entrepreneurs. Donna began Quality Fountains, a company featuring yard art and statuary. After her father retired she consolidated her business to join him as a partner at Desert Blooms located at 184 Osuna Road NW. These owners of Desert Blooms create the 5-12 foot cement pots which you admire in a three step process:
  1. Bennie and Donna use rebar to design the pots.
  2. Cement and plaster is added to the form.
  3. The blank pot is decorated by Navajo Nation artist Clarence Tsosie.
The larger pots range in price from $6,000 to $10,000. Smaller pots which are about 3 feet tall run from $3,500 to $4,500. Look for these local artistic creations when the Sierra del Rio Golf Course at Elephant Butte opens in Spring 2007 or explore the link below or just give them a call at (505) 341-0197: http://www.nmpots.com/

Make Beautiful Music with the Help of Bill Richardson
5 May 2007

Bill Richardson, owner of Studio Guitar at 106 Morningside NE, has a talent for creating, repairing, or restoring your Stratocaster--guitar for short.

Richardson dreamed of being a accomplished musician. He found he lacked the needed patience. Loving guitars he began repairing old ones. That love launched him into his career work. That work has touched the lives of musicians such as Bonnie Raitt, Chris Isaak, and our own Al Hurricane.

Pull that old guitar out of your attic, and let Bill help you make beautiful music again.
