City Seeks Input on Future Urban Street Design

Would you like to see your ideas for urban street design come to fruition? Here's your chance to let the The City of Albuquerque know!
You are invited to attend three presentations to extend your input into future city planning, improvement ideas, and mutual interchange with fellow citizens and city planners. What are your ideas for street improvement, what enhances an area, and what detracts from it?
You may attend any of the meetings, and you don't need to reserve a seat. They all run from 6-8:30 p.m. at the following locations:
- Monday, November 27, 2006 at the Barelas Community Center, 801 Barelas Road SW
- Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at Taylor Ranch Community Center, 4900 Kachina Street NW
- Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at Manzano Mesa Multigenerational Center, 501 Elizabeth St. SE

The Rock Does It Again!!!

Rocky Long will be looking for a new win on December 23, 2006 when the University of New Mexico Lobos reach for the first New Mexico Bowl trophy.
On November 25, 2006 UNM became eligible for the NM Bowl bid when it handily beat San Diego State 41-14. The bid was accepted for a head-to-head with a representative from the Western Athletic Conference. UNM under Coach Rocky Long will make its fourth bowl appearance in the past five seasons with this game.

Local Group, ACCION, Cited for Work

New Mexico has many things to brag about. Add a new one. In The Charity Navigator's 2006 Holiday Gift Giving Guide, a New Mexico group, ACCION New Mexico, received the highest rating in the division of Community and Housing Development. This non-profit group increases entrepreneurs' access to business credit, makes loans, and provides training for emerging businesses. Its activities promote positive economic and social change.
ACCION's first lending operations began in 1994. Since its beginnings, it has channeled over $18 million in loans to more than 1,500 small business owners in 140 plus communities across the state.

Albuquerque Hires Forester To Promote Trees

Nicholas Kuhn, according to a November 11, 2006 article in the Albuquerque Tribune, has been hired to promote a renewed interest in tree landscaping throughout the city. He will help residents and neighborhood associations with tree selection and proper placement. He will speak to groups such as garden clubs. Help with policies and educate about the virtues of trees: shade, beauty, the replacement of carbon dioxide with oxygen for cleaner air, and the reduction of the impact of global warming.
